This was my final drive in the Tesla Model 3 Highland loaner, courtesy of Tesla Australia, and what a journey it has been! Over the last few weeks, I’ve made around 20 videos 🎥 testing Tesla Full Self-Driving (Supervised, Down Under Edition) across New South Wales — from scenic Illawarra routes 🌊 to Sydney’s busy CBD 🚦. This drive took me back to the Tesla showroom in Alexandria 📍, and it delivered both brilliant highlights ✅ and one serious concern ⚠️. ⸻ 🚫 The Dangerous Moment — Solid White Line Violation The car performed beautifully for most of the drive, but there was one dangerous maneuver I must call out. At one point, FSD crossed a solid white line. In New South Wales, crossing a solid white line is more than just a quirk — it’s an offense under road rules ⚖️. Solid white lines are there to protect drivers, marking areas where lane changes are unsafe due to blind spots, intersections, or limited visibility. Ignoring them can result in fines 💰, demerit points 🚫, and most importantly, accidents. This one moment shows why, while FSD is incredibly advanced, it still requires active human supervision 🧑✈️. ⸻ ✅ The Positives of the Drive Apart from that single issue, the rest of the journey was fantastic 🤩. Some highlights: • 🛣️ Perfect lane keeping across suburban and arterial roads. • 🚦 Smooth handling of a wide intersection with multiple lanes. • ➕ Confident navigation through a staggered plus junction. • 🔀 Clean decision-making at a tricky T-junction. • 🚇 Even when GPS signal dropped inside Sydney’s tunnels, FSD maintained logical positioning and guided us safely out. These are not easy conditions — Sydney roads test even the best human drivers.
